Test Requirements for Your Trip

Please be advised that we do not provide consultation on the current testing requirements for your trip abroad by telephone or e-mail.

Check the test regulations for entry in the country of your desired destination and consider varying test regulations:

  • Test method (for example PCR or antigen)

  • Earliest possible time for sample collection and analysis

  • Time required from sample collection to test result

Note: Plan enough time for your Test Center visit to ensure timely collection and analysis of the sample!

PCR Test

The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is used to check whether the sample contains genetic material (RNA) of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to the Paul Ehrlich Institute, PCR tests are currently the most reliable ones. They even detect the very low viral load present at the beginning and end of an infection. Detection takes place via a throat swab or a saliva sample.

Antigen Test

The antigen test verifies the protein of the virus. Generally the antigen test is only significant after several days of infection, because it cannot detect a very low viral load. Therefore, it is considered only as a “snapshot.” Detection takes place via a throat or nasal swab.

Note: The WHO recommends that tests with a sensitivity of 80% should not be used for travel. According to a recent study, the antigen detection methods used by CENTOGENE show a sensitivity of >90%. The sensitivity indicates to what percentage a test detects an infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in individuals who are actually infected with COVID-19.

ID-/Passport Data on Your Report

Some destinations require passport data on the report. Of course, passport or ID data can be included on the report. You can book this option free of charge directly with your coronavirus test.

The option “ID-/passport data on your report” can only be booked together with a test in the Corona Test Portal and cannot be obtained afterwards.

Please have your original identification document available when you visit the Test Center. After your sample has been analyzed, you can download the report from the Corona Test Portal. Your identification data will be included in the report.
